Do you know what it is?
Its freshly picked sweetcorn straight from our field!
Sweetcorn comes ready packaged in its own natural wrapping known as the husk – these are layers of leaves wrapped tightly round the cob topped off with the silk. Microwaving is one of the easiest ways to remove the husks and silk as the steam generated inside the leaves loosens them.
Corn on the cob is also a really quick and convenient snack cooked in the microwave! Leave the cob in the husk. Pop it in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes depending on the size then leave to stand in the microwave for a minute to two. Be very very careful when you get it out as it will be very hot. Using an oven glove or tea towel to hold the cob – cut the stalk off at the base of the leaves – then slide the husk and the silk off the cob. Slather the cob with butter! Yum!
They are available ready picked in Bells Farm Shop now.
As the cob is hidden inside the leaves it takes a bit of experience to tell when they ready so we are picking them for you at the moment as its early in the season.
This is what is inside!
